Unveiling India’s News Agencies: A Brief Overview

A news agency is that gather and distribute the news to the media outlets, that are newspaper, magazines, television and radio. Moreover, news agencies offer variety of services, like photographs, text, video and audio. In addition, these agencies have a vast network across the country and globe. In addition, provide news coverage in various languages be English, Hindi or any other regional languages. Furthermore, News agencies also play a role in promoting democracy and awaking the audience all over the country. Lastly, News agencies are a part of mass media landscape, providing every detail with country’s people.

Firstly, let’s discuss the Press information Bureau [PIB]. PIB is the nodal agency of the government of India to do disseminate information to the print and electronic media on government policies, programmers, initiatives and achievement. PIB is the link between government and media. It also provide feedback to the government on citizens reaction. Press Information Bureau established in June 1919 under Home Ministry under the British government by the name Central Bureau of information. Dr LF Rush Brock Williams became its director. The designation of head of the bureau was changed from director to Principal Information Officer in 1938. Sh. J. Natarajan became the first Indian in 1941 to be appointed as Principal Information Officer. The organization name was changed to press information bureau in 1947. The post of PIB recently is headed by Rajesh Malhotra.

Next, we have the Free Press of India. FPI was an Indian nationally supporting news agency founded in 1920s by Swaminath Sadhana during British raj. It was the very first news agency owned and managed by the Indians. Due to poor business decisions from the beginning and filling too much on its financials, the agency couldn’t get enough support from Indian owned newspapers and had to shut down 1935. It was restored between 1945 and 1947 before being suppressed by the government of newly independent country. It was at various time a supporter of Swaraj Party And later of responsive cooperation party.

Moving On, the United news of India. It established in 1961 has been one of the largest news agencies in India with several subscribers across the nation The agency subscriber include newspaper published in 40 languages All India Radio and Door Darshan as well as prime minister’s office, union minister’s office, central and state governments corporate and commercial houses, besides electronic and web-based media. UNI has news bureaus in all state Capital and other major cities. UNI was first to start a multi-language news service known as UNIVARTA on May 1, 1982 that continues to give Hindi newspaper and media organization a full package of National, International sports and commercial news in their publication. United news of India remains the first and only news agency in the world to supply news in Urdu.

Now, let’s talk about the Press Trust of India is a news agency owned by a group of Indian newspapers. These newspapers came together over the management of Associated Press of India and the Indian branches of the British Reuters news agency. It was established in February 1949 and is headquartered in Mumbai. PTI is one of the developing world’s largest news agencies which operates in English and is a non-profit national enterprise.

Additionally, there’s the Indo Asian news service was established in 1986, to serve as an information bridge between the Indians and its migrants in North America. After 30 years it became a full-fledged via news agency, delivering news 24 into 7 From India and South Asia covering every news from around the world. Furthermore, IANS Is one of the India’s most reliable independent and professional news delivers providing content all across the media platforms.

Finally, we have, launched in 1971, Asian News International is an Indian news agency, developed as a monopoly supplier of news from India to Reuters. Its headquarters is in New Delhi.  The chairman and founder are Prem Prakash, and Sanjeev Prakash is the editor and CEO of Asian News International. Asian news international provides content for every information platform, including text, video and picture content for television, broadband, newspapers and streamed media. On the other hand, it also publishes news on its own website with various beats such as entertainment, lifestyle, business, sports and more.
