Identify the correct chronological sequence of the following news agencies:

(A) Associated press, Havas, Press Trust of India, Agencè France Pressè

(B) Agencè France Pressè, Havas, Associated press, Press Trust of India,

(C) Havas, Associated press, Agencè France Pressè, Press Trust of India,

(D) Press Trust of India, Havas, Agencè France Pressè Associated press

Correct Ans: (C)

To identify the correct chronological sequence of news agencies, we must first look at the year of their establishment. These agencies emerged during different political and technological eras, playing a key role in shaping global journalism.

First came Havas. Charles-Louis Havas established this agency in France in 1835. It was one of the world’s first news agencies and laid the foundation for international news distribution.

Next, Associated Press (AP) was born in 1846 in the United States. American newspapers joined forces to create this cooperative agency. AP became a pioneer in rapid news transmission across long distances.

Then, Agencè France Pressè (AFP) came into existence in 1944. It actually emerged out of the earlier Havas agency. During World War II, the agency was restructured and renamed to reflect a new democratic France.

Finally, Press Trust of India (PTI) was founded in 1947. After India’s independence, PTI replaced Reuters as the main national news agency. It focused on Indian perspectives in national and international reporting.

So, the correct chronological order is:
Havas → Associated Press → Agencè France Pressè → Press Trust of India.

This sequence reflects the evolution of global journalism, moving from European dominance to independent national voices.

Thus, the correct answer is (C).
