Bollywood movies inspired by cricket are: - LAGAAN (2001) First and foremost, this film is set during the era of Victorian period and is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Starring Aamir Khan as Bhuvan, this movie tells that how the people of village challenge the British Officials for a cricket match, to avoid the oppressive taxes. In the process, these villagers learn cricket and give a good competition, and also winning the match against the Britishers. Notably, Lagaan was nominated for Oscars. IQBAL (2005) Furthermore, Iqbal is a heartwarming movie, about determination and dedication. Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. This movie tells the story about a deaf and mute boy (played by Shreyas Talpade) who wants to play cricket for India. With the help of former cricketer (played by Naseeruddin Shah) Iqbaal overcomes the obstacles and fulfils his dream. M.S. DHONI- THE UNTOLD STORY (2016) Additionally, this biographical movie based on the life of former Indian Cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. This movie is directed by Neeraj Pandey and showcase the journey of M.S. Dhoni from mere small town ticket collector to the Captain of Indian Cricket team, and also the way he wins the World Cup. Furthermore, this movie talks about his dreams, achievement, professional and personal life. SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS (2017) In addition, Sachin: A Billion Dreams is a documentary-drama that offers a heartfelt glimpse into the life of the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. This documentary shows his life from childhood to becoming a cricket lord. JERSEY (2022) Similarly, this story revolves around a former cricketer named Arjun (played by Shahid Kapoor) who returns to field of cricket to fulfil his son’s wish to own a jersey as a gift. This movie is about self-reflection and family sacrifices made. AZHAR (2016) Directed by Tony D’Souza, this movie is a biographical sports drama, based on former cricket captain, Mohammad Azharuddin. This movie discusses his personal life, love controversy, career and match-fixing scandal that shook the cricket world. KAI PO CHE! (2013) Likewise, based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, The Three Mistakes of My Life. This movie revolves around three friends who open a cricket academy. This movie beautifully portrays the way cricket makes place in their life among the personal and political troubles. CHAIN KULLI KI MAIN KULII (2007) Directed by Karanjeet Saluja, the follows a story of a young orphan bot Karan (Zain Khan) who finds a magical cricket bat fulfilling his dream of playing professional cricket. However, his bat is broken by another boy envious of him, amidst this he found self-confidence to make the team win. Thus, this film depicts dream, self-confidence importance of belief. SABAASH MITHU (2022) Based on the life of former female Indian cricket team captain Mithali Raj, is a sports biographical film. Directed by Srijit Mukherjee, and stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead role. This movie changes the definition of saying that cricket is men’s game, portraying female in the field of achieving heights in this male-dominated society. VICTORY (2009) Finally, directed by Ajitpal Mangat, "Victory" is a compelling sports drama that tells the story of Vijay Shekhawat (Harman Baweja), a small-town boy with big dreams of becoming a cricket star. The film chronicles Vijay's journey from his humble beginnings to the pinnacle of cricketing success, and the subsequent challenges he faces in the harsh world of fame.
