Assertion (A): Content of media effectively influences the subject matter of the group communication in the society.
Reason (R): Content of media is the mirror image of the society.
(A) Both (A) and (R) are true
(B) Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A)
(C) (A) is true but (R) is false
(D) (A) is false but (R) is true
Correct Ans: (B)
Explanation:
Media content plays a crucial role in shaping group communication within society. It spreads information, raises awareness, and fosters dialogue on various issues. Through news, entertainment, and educational programs, the media sets the agenda for public discourse. It guides the topics and perspectives that dominate group conversations. This makes the assertion true, as media content significantly influences discussions within communities. For instance, media coverage of global crises or social movements often sparks debates. It highlights how media impacts group communication.
At the same time, media content reflects the realities and values of the society it serves. It acts as a “mirror image” of cultural trends, social issues, and evolving norms. News stories, films, and advertisements often capture these aspects. However, while this reflective quality is valid, it does not fully explain how media shapes group communication. Media does more than reflect—it amplifies narratives and promotes viewpoints. These actions influence societal behaviors and opinions actively. Thus, both the assertion and reason are true. Yet, the reason does not completely explain the assertion. This makes option (B) the correct answer.
